Picture Frame Fabricator / Part-Time

In Hang Tough Framing we have a wood shop where we fabricate our frames and prepare them for artwork fitting and end of line.
We are looking for a suitable candidate to join our team on a part-time basis, 3 days a week with the potential of leading to a full time position.
Suitable applicants will be called for an interview and if successful after this stage will be offered a 2 week trial.

Applicants must have the following essential skills:

  • Have an advanced knowledge of working with wood
  • Understand the dimensions of a profile – face, side, wall, rebate depth, rebate width
  • Competent operation of machinery – rip saw, mitre saw, moulder
  • Be able to identify timber and know each timber’s characteristics
  • Be confident in measuring precisely
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
  • Have an understanding of health and safety

Duties associated with the fabrication of frames include:

  • Joining frames
  • Sanding frames
  • Making sub / strainer frames
  • Use of hand tools – sanders, cordless drills, routers 
  • Staining wood frames
  • Spraying frames with water based and cellulose paints
  • Understanding the difference in finishes
  • Matching colours
  • Waxing and buffing frames
  • Quality inspection
  • Component control
  • Cutting, sanding and preparing fillets
  • Packaging frames
  • Updating Evernote customer management system
  • Have an understanding of health and safety

Picture Frame Fitter / Full Time

We are looking for a suitable candidate to join our team on a full-time basis, 5 days / 37.5 hours per week.
Suitable applicants will be called for an interview and if successful after this stage will be offered a 2 week trial.

Applicants must have the following essential skills:

  • Previous experience in a picture framing workshop
  • Comprehensive understanding of all artwork types e.g. prints, paintings, etchings, canvases etc.
  • Confidence in correct artwork handling, condition checking and storage methods
  • Accuracy in measurements
  • Efficient knowledge in the correct paper hinging techniques including Japanese hinges and alternative fixings such as stitching, photo corners
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
  • Understanding of health and safety

Duties associated with the fabrication of frames include:

  • Fitting and mounting artwork into frames
  • Quality control through extensive condition reporting
  • Update job sheet and Evernote management system
  • Operation of roller-press for production of mounts and backings
  • Safe handling / lifting of sheet glass material and condition checking
  • Measure and cut glass
  • Identify glass types and characteristics
  • Monitor stock inventory and place orders
  • Identify defects and action replacement process with suppliers
  • Safe correct handling / lifting of frames / artwork with condition checking
  • Glass / Plexi handling and cleaning methods and basic glass cutting
  • Frame preparation, cleaning, foil lining, buffer strips
  • Fitting slips and fillets
  • Safe use of compressed air tools, drills and blowers.
  • Safe usage of hand tool operation, battery drills, blades
  • Application of specified hanging systems including security fixings.
  • Taping / sealing and general finishing of reverse of frames (labels etc.)
  • Correct storage of completed frames
  • Support Front Of House with client collections
